The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team heads to our nation's capital to do battle with the Carleton Ravens this Saturday, September 19.
Â
Kickoff is schedule for 1 p.m. The game will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.
Â
The critical early season game is set to have major playoff implications. The Varsity Blues are 1-1 to start the season, after falling to the defending Yates Cup champion McMaster Marauders 55-33 in Week 1, before edging the Windsor Lancers on Labour Day Monday at Varsity Centre.
Â
Fifth-year U of T quarterback Simon Nassar looks forward to returning to the Ravens' nest after a standout performance last season. In 2014, the English major broke the U of T, OUA and CIS single-game records for most completions with 49 and the U of T single-game passing yards record with 548 yards in the Blues Week 6 tilt at Carleton. Currently sitting in the CIS top ten in passing yard per game and coming off a bye week, Nassar and the rest of the Blues offence are ready for a major test on the road.
Â
Meanwhile, the Ravens are 2-1 after three weeks of OUA football action. Carleton dropped a 34-24 decision to the Queen's Gaels in Week 1 but are coming off back-to-back victories over Waterloo (62-0) and Windsor (62-16).
Â
Third-year Carleton running back Jahvari Bennett has turned into the team's premiere back. Bennett sits third in the CIS with 400 rushing yards and second in the country with five touchdowns. With a strong compliment of speed and power, Bennett will look to achieve his third 100-yard rushing game of the season against the Blues defence.
Â
The importance of the game cannot be understated for either team as the coming weeks will be critical for both teams playoff pushes. For the Ravens, momentum for the following two weeks will be imperative as they are on the road against the nationally ranked Western Mustangs before taking part in the rivalry Panda Bowl against the Ottawa Gee Gees.
Â
For the Varsity Blues, a victory would set them up when they return home the following week when they host the Queen's Gaels in their Hall of Fame game on Saturday, September 26 at Varsity Centre. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale
