The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's basketball teams host the Lakehead Thunderwolves and Guelph Gryphons this Friday and Saturday night (Feb. 6-7) at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
The women start the action at 6 p.m., with the men to follow at 8 p.m., on both nights. All four games will be streamed live on OUA.tv. Advance tickets are on sale here.
Women:Toronto's women are 7-6 and in third place in the OUA East division with a game in hand over the second-place Queen's Gaels (9-5). The Blues are coming off a narrow 72-70 loss to the No. 8 McMaster Marauders last Saturday night.
Fifth-year guard Jill Stratton leads the Blues and ranks seventh in the province with 15.5 points per game, while also ranking fourth in the OUA with 8.5 boards per contest.
Jasmine Lewin has averaged 8.3 points and 5.0 boards per game with a quartet of Blues averaging six points or higher.
The No. 9 Lakehead Thunderwolves are 11-3 and sit atop the OUA Central division. The Thunderwolves are riding a seven-game win streak, dating back to Jan. 9.
Fifth-year guard Jylisa Williams leads the CIS with 28.0 points and ranks second in the OUA with 9.7 rebounds per game. Fellow veteran Essa Jacobsen averages 9.4 points per contest.
The Guelph Gryphons are 7-6 and in third place in the Central division. Guelph is coming off a 59-57 victory over Brock last weekend.
The Gryphons are led by veteran forward Katherine MacTavish who averages a double-double of 18.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Bridget Atkinson also averages 10.6 points per game.
Men:The Varsity Blues men are 3-10 and in fourth place in the OUA East division.
Third-year forward Devin Johnson leads the Blues and ranks 10th in the OUA with 17.6 points and third in the province with 9.4 boards per game.
Manny Sahota and Julian Clarke also average double digits with 10.8 and 15.5 points per game, respectively.
Lakehead (8-6) is in second place in the OUA Central division and have won their past three games.
Dwayne Harvey leads the team with 13.3 points per game, while three other Thunderwolves also average double-digit points.
The Gryphons are 7-6 and in third place in the Central division, but hold a game in hand over Lakehead.Â
Trevor Thompson and Daniel Dooley top the Gryphons with 13.3 and 13.6 points per game, respectively. Thompson also leads the squad with 5.7 boards per game.Â
