The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's basketball teams are fighting for playoff positioning as they host the York Lions and Queen's Gaels this week at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
U of T takes on York on Wednesday night and Queen's on Saturday. The women start the action at 6 p.m., with the men to follow at 8 p.m. on both nights. Advance tickets are on sale here. All four games will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.
Toronto will honour their graduating seniors between at the conclusion of the women's game on Saturday night.
Women's PreviewThe Blues women (9-8) have long clinched a playoff berth and currently sit in third place in the East, only two points behind the second-place Queen's Gaels (10-7).
RECORD WATCH: Fifth-year guard Jill Stratton is 14 points away from becoming U of T's all-time career scoring leader with two regular season games remaining in her career. The Etobicoke, Ont., native looks to pass Alaine Hutton's (2004-09) record of 1,241 points this week.
Stratton leads the Blues and ranks fifth in the OUA, averaging 16.9 points per game. She also sits third in the province with 9.2 rebounds per contest.
A quartet of Blues average over six points per game, with veteran guard Jasmine Lewin ranking second on the team with 7.6 points per game. Sophomore guard Rahshida Atkinson has had a break out year, notching 7.4 points per game, while Emily Piccini and Abena Addo average 6.8 and 7.4 points, respectively.
York's women are 2-16 and in fourth place, out of playoff contention. The Lions are led by veteran forward Courney Osborne, who averages 10.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
The second-place Gaels are led by Liz Boag and Jenny Wright, who average 12.6 and 14.1 points per game, respectively.
Men's PreviewU of T's men (5-12) are tied with the Queen's Gaels (5-12) for third place in the East and looking to solidify their first post-season berth since 2012 this week.
Third-year forward Devin Johnson leads the team with 17.9 points, while also ranking third in the OUA with 9.4 rebounds per game.
Julian Clarke ranks second on the team with 15.4 points per game, while Manny Sahota also notches 10.7 points per game.
Rookie guard Sage Usher averages 5.7 points and a team-high 3.2 assists per game, while forward Kwasi Oti-Awere sits second on the squad with 5.8 rebounds per game.
York's men are 9-9 and have guaranteed themselves second place in the East. Veteran forward Nick Tufegdzich leads the Lions with 19.6 points and 10.1 boards per game, while Richard Iheadindu and Nathan Culbreath average 13.1 and 14.8 points per game, respectively.
Greg Faulkner leads Queen's (5-12) and ranks third in the OUA with 20.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Patrick Street also averages 13.3 points per game.
