Box Score The No. 6 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team handed the Ryerson Rams their first loss of the season, winning 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-21) on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 8) at Goldring Centre.
With the win, the Blues improve to 4-0 and sit atop the OUA East standings, while the Rams drop to 3-1 in the early goings of the season.
Second-year left side hitter Anna Feore led the Blues with nine kills, two blocks and two aces, while also adding nine digs on the day.
Rookie right side Alina Dormann added eight kills, two blocks and an ace, while veteran Caleigh Cruickshank had six kills, three aces and two blocks. Fifth-year middle Bojana Radan notched four kills and three blocks, with Madelyn Mandryk tallying 26 assists and a team-high 17 digs in the win.
Toronto got out to an early lead in the first set, thanks to some great work from Cruickshank. Up 16-7 at the technical timeout, Feore and Davis helped the Blues to a 25-13 win.
Ryerson kept pace in the early goings of the second set, but Toronto surged ahead and took a 16-9 lead at the break. A final block from Feore gave U of T a 2-0 match lead, 25-17.
The Blues got out to a 7-2 advantage in the third. Despite a Ryerson rally, Radan shone before the technical timeout to give the Blues the 16-13 advantage. The Blues kept rolling en route to the 25-21 victory.
Ryerson was led by Theanna Vernon's game-high 12 kills. Julie Longman led all players with 19 digs in the loss.
The Varsity Blues are back in action next Saturday, November 14 when they host the Brock Badgers at Goldring Centre. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
