Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team dropped a narrow 89-88 decision to the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, November 21 at St. Denis Centre.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 1-3 and sit in fourth place in the OUA East division, while the Lancers improve to 4-1 and are tied with Laurier for first place in the West.
Third-year forward Devin Johnson scored a career-high 34 points, while adding a team-high eight rebounds and three assists on the day.
First-year forward Daniel Johansson recorded 14 points and seven rebounds, while rookie guard Devon Williams had 13 points, two assists and two steals.
Sophomore guard Sage Usher added eight points and matched his career-high with eight assists in the loss.
Down 50-43 at halftime, the Blues opened the third quarter on a 17-10 streak with a Johnson three-pointer evening the score at 60-60 midway through the frame. U of T kept the momentum going and led by as many as nine points (73-64), but the Lancers rallied with six straight points to cut the deficit to three (73-70) heading into the fourth.
The Blues held a narrow lead throughout the fourth quarter until Alex Campbell scored to give the home team the one-point advantage with 9.5 second to go. Toronto inbounded the ball but were unable to drain the winning basket as time expired in favour of the Lancers.
Alex Campbell led the Lancers with 26 points, six assists and five boards, while Marko Kovac had 16 points and Isiah Osborne notched 14 points in the win.
The Varsity Blues wrap up the fall semester tomorrow afternoon as they head to London, Ont., to take on the No. 6 nationally ranked Western Mustangs. Tip off is set for 4 p.m. The game will be streamed live on OUA.tv
