BLUES POWER OVER WARRIORS IN HOME OPENER

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team notched a 91-65 home opening victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Wednesday night (Nov. 11) at Goldring Centre.

With the win, the Blues improve to 1-1 in the early goings of the OUA season.

Fourth-year forward Devin Johnson notched a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Johnson went 10-for-19 from the floor and added three steals to his game-high 26 points, 16 of which came in the first half.

First-year forward Daniel Johansson of Stockholm added 16 points and six boards, while rookie guard Devon Williams had 11 points and five assists on the night.

Sophomore guard Sage Usher tallied 10 points and a game-high seven assists, with both Manny Sahota and Christopher Barrett adding nine points in the victory.

As a team, Toronto shot 45.7% from the floor and 33.3% from beyond the arc. The Blues outrebounded the Warriors 56-33. 

Jon Ravenhorst topped the Warriors with 19 points, while Kristian Vande Kemp had 14 points. Ben Davis added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to the court this Saturday, November 14 when they travel to Hamilton to take on the McMaster Marauders. Game time is set for 8 p.m.

GAME NOTES: U of T welcomed the Navy League of Canada NLCC Enterprise, NLCC Prince of Wales, the 618 Queen City Air Cadets and the Vanguard Sea Cadets for a special pre-game ceremony in honour of Remembrance Day.
