The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's water polo team went 3-0 at the Queen's Invitational, October 31-November 1, in Kingston, Ont.
The Blues showed a stifling defence in the three victories, giving up an average of only two goals per game. Toronto opened the tournament with an 11-1 win over the Carleton Ravens and followed that up with a 6-1 victory over the Queen's Gaels. The Blues faced the Ravens again on Sunday, topping them 8-4.
In the opening match against Carleton, rookie goalie Daniela Freeman (Los Angeles) shut out the Ravens for three quarters before being lifted in favour of senior goalie Rosie Brown (Oakland).
Toronto native Ana Miroslavic led the Blues with a hat trick in the 11-1 win. Sophomore Ali Kraft (Southern California) and rookie Megan MacCormac (Ottawa) each notched a pair of goals. Four freshmen, Katie Rich (Vancouver), Natalie Blouin (Winnipeg), Emily Kelvin-Davies (Fraser Valley) and Dandy Ekanayake (Toronto) added singles in the win.
In the second game of the day, the Blues cruised to a 6-1 win over the host Gaels. MacCormac paced the Blues with four goals while Kraft popped in two.
The Blues finished the tournament with a rematch against the Ravens.
The Varsity Blues continued its undefeated season with a hard-fought 8-4 victory over the Ravens.
MacCormac put in her second four-goal performance of the weekend to pace the Blues. Miroslavic scored a hat trick and senior Stefanie Chapman notched the other.
The Blues are back in action this Saturday, November 6 when they host the McMaster Marauders at Varsity Pool. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m.
