The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's water polo team went a perfect 4-0 at the 2015 Carleton Invitational, October 17-18, in Ottawa.
Toronto 13, Ottawa 10The U of T women's water polo team opened up with a 13-10 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the opening contest of the Carleton Invitational in Ottawa. The teams played a tight first half but the Blues pulled away in the third quarter to lead 10-4. Ana Miroslavic (Toronto) led the Blues with four goals. Senior co-captain Julie Szpara and junior Emily Bidinosti, both from Kitchener, each notched a pair of goals. Senior Stefanie Chapman (Vancouver), sophomore Ali Kraft (California) and freshmen Megan MacCormac (Ottawa), Natalie Blouin (Winnipeg) and Katie Rich (Vancouver) chipped in with singles. The Blues and Gee-Gees last met in the championship final last year, won by U of T 8-2.Toronto 9, Carleton 1The Blues rookie goalie Daniela Freeman (Los Angeles) and newly converted veteran goalie Rosalee Brown (Oakland) combined for 12 saves and four steals in a 9-1 victory over the Carleton Ravens.
Emily Bidinosti (Kitchener, Ont.) led the way with a hat trick. Rookie Megan MacCormac (Ottawa) notched a pair of goals. Senior Stefanie Chapman (Vancouver), third-year standout Ana Miroslavic (Toronto), as well as rookies Katie Rich (Vancouver) and Natalie Blouin (Winnipeg) tallied once each.
Toronto 13, Queen's 10The Varsity Blues women's water polo team continued to roll with its third win in a row at the Carleton Invitational.
The Blues defeated Queen's Gaels 13-10 in a game that featured several lead changes and tied situations.
Marianne Tout (Vancouver) and Ali Kraft (California) paced the way with four goals apiece. Freshman Emily Kelvin-Davies (Fraser Valley, B.C.) scored her first hat trick as a Varsity Blue. Rookie Emily Morrison (Chicago) and second-year player Diane Andres each tallied once.
Toronto 16, ORCA 4The U of T women's water polo team finished the Carleton Invitational with a perfect 4-0 record after a convincing 16-4 win over the ORCA senior women's club team.
The win was redemption for the Blues, who lost to ORCA at last year's event.
Emily Bidinosti (Kitchener), last year's OUA MVP, dominated the game, scoring six times. Rookie Megan MacCormac (Ottawa) also had a strong game pumping in four goals.
Senior co-captains Sydney MacDougall (Winnipeg) and Julie Szpara (Kitchener ), third-year players Ana Miroslavic (Toronto) and Marianne Tout (Vancouver), second-year Ali Kraft (California) and rookie Emily Kelvin-Davies (Fraser Valley, B.C.) all chipped in with one goal.
Freshman goalie Daniela Freeman (Los Angeles) had a strong game, conceding just twice throughout her three quarters of play while also making 10 saves.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 24 when they travel to Hamilton, Ont., to take on the McMaster Marauders.
