The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team won a back-and-forth five set pre-season contest against the McMaster Marauders Friday night (Oct. 16). Set scores were 25-17, 22-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-8.
The Blues looked to be in prime form, finding a way to be efficient attackers in both the opening and closing stanzas of the game, hitting .32 of attacks in the first set and nearly half in the deciding fifth.Â
First-year right side Alina Dormann led the attack for the Varsity Blues, finishing with 15 kills on 36 total attacks, two serving aces, and eight digs.Â
Fourth-year setter Madelyn Mandryk,who has become a stabilizing presence for U of T, finished with 45 assists and an incredible 15 digs on the night.
McMaster's Joanna Jerdzejewska led all attackers with 19 kills, while libero Carly Heath Heath led the Marauders with 12 digs.
The Varsity Blues conclude their preseason Sunday, Octboer 18 when they welcome the Western Mustangs to the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
