After a very successful regular season, the Varsity Blues fastpitch team is heading to the playoffs. Despite a late season stumble, the Blues were able to lock down a fourth-place OIWFA finish. Completing the season at 15-7, the Blues enter the playoffs as a very dangerous team.
Â
As a group, the Toronto squad enters the weekend with the No. 2 ranked offence in the league, and third-ranked in the country. Leading the way is centre fielder Nicole Knudsen. In her third season,  Knudsen led the Blues with a .452 batting average and 21 runs batted in. Hitting in front of Knudsen is leadoff batter, Alika Kingsbury. In her first season at Toronto, Kingsbury led the Blues in runs scored, and is the fire starter on the offence. Behind these two speed threats, is Renee Ridout and Kylie O'Donnell, looking to drive them in.
Â
A great defence backs up the pitching staff, which has shown flashes of dominance all season. Taisley Isaac leads the staff, and had a win/loss record of 6-1, with a 2.16 ERA.
As the Blues enter the playoffs, the team is healthy, rested, and ready to pull off what some might consider an upset. In the Varsity Blues pool is the first-place Western Mustangs, Windsor, and Queen's. In the regular season, the Blues dropped two close games to Western, but remain undefeated vs Windsor and Queen's. The team has to finish in the top three in the pool to advance to the medal round Sunday
