Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team improved to 14-0 with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-17) victory over the Queen's Gaels on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 24) in Kingston, Ont.
The win clinches Toronto's playoff berth in the East division. U of T is guaranteed to finish among the top four teams in the East and advance to the OUA quarter-final round.
Fifth-year right side hitter Jen Neilson led the Blues with 13 kills, while adding six digs, three aces and one block on the day.
Fellow veteran Bojana Radan added seven kills, five blocks and two aces, while Caleigh Cruickshank had seven kills and eight digs. Charlotte Sider notched four kills, four aces, eight digs and two blocks.
Madelyn Mandryk tallied 27 assists and six digs, with Denise Wooding adding a game-high 14 digs in the win.
The first set was even in the early goings, with the score tied six times up to 8-8. Toronto then took control as Tessa Davis served U of T through a 7-0 run and the Blues led 16-10 at the technical timeout. A final kill from Cruickshank sealed the first set 25-18 in favour of Toronto.
Back-to-back aces from Radan gave Toronto an early 7-4 lead in the second set. A C Sider ace gave U of T the 16-11 lead at the break. The Blues maintained the comfortable gap en route to a 25-17 second set win.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle but Toronto went on a 10-5 streak to take the lead for good. A Feore block and Gaels attacking error sealed the match with a 25-17 third set victory.
Brett Hagarty led the Gaels with a game-high 16 kills and added 11 digs in the loss.
The No. 4 nationally ranked Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow as they take on the RMC Paladins in Kingston, Ont. Game time is set for 3 p.m.Â
