Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team dropped an 87-77 decision to the York Lions on Saturday, January 24 at Tait McKenzie Centre.
Fourth-year guard Julian Clarke led the Blues with 17 points and five assists, while Devin Johnson had 16 points and a team-high six rebounds. Chase Ruttenberg added 10 points, four boards and two steals, while rookie guard Sage Usher had nine points, four board and four assists in the loss.
York got out to an early 8-2 lead and despite a late three from U of T's Manny Sahota, the home team led by 10 (26-16) after the first quarter.
The Lions led by as many as 16 points in the second but the Blues battled back and two straight three's from Ruttenberg brought Toronto within six (46-40) at halftime.
York re-established a cushion in the third and U of T was unable to mount the comeback, dropping the 10-point decision.
Nathan Culbreath led the Lions with a double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds, while Nick Tufegdzich had 17 points and 17 boards in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, January 31 as they host the McMaster Marauders at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. Game time is set for 3 p.mÂ
