The University of Toronto Varsity Blues fastpitch team had a 2-2 weekend at Laurier (W 7-0, L 5-4) and Waterloo (L 5-3, W 6-1). This puts the team in the middle of the pack heading into the second week of the OIWFA season.
The Blues defence was solid for the majority of the weekend, with great pitching from veteran Renee Ridout (Scarborough, Ont.), and two first-years Alicia Callaghan (Mississauga, Ont). and Taisley Isaac (New Battleford, Sask.).
Leading the way on offence was fourth-year Kylie O'Donnell (Toronto, Ont.) with three runs batted in on five hits. Returning from a year off, fourth-year Natasha Szlapetis (Brampton, Ont.) had three hits and two runs batted in. Whitby native, Mercedes Roddau hit a home run in her Blues debut, and Danielle Ridout (Scarborough, Ont.) had two runs batted in for the weekend.
The Varsity Blues fastpitch team head to Guelph on Friday, September 19 before returning for their home opener against York on Saturday at Hendon Park (located at Yonge and Finch).
