The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's track and field teams earned seven medals on Day 1 of the OUA championships on Friday, February 21 at York University.
Toronto's women sit in fourth place with 61 points. Western leads the team standings with 88 points, while Windsor (64) and Guelph (64) are tied for second place.
The Blues men are in sixth place after Day 1, with 26 points. The Windsor Lancers lead with 73 points, followed by Guelph (69), York (55), Western (46) and Ottawa (27).
Greg MacNeill led Toronto's men with a gold medal performance in the 60m hurdles in a time of 7.78 seconds.
Toronto's Women's 4x800 relay team of Fiona Callender, Colleen Hennessy, Rachael Jewett and Honour Walmsley claimed the gold medal in a time of 8:53.26. The Blues men's team of Alex Denault, Brendan Hynes, Connor Outhit and Ethan Davenport placed fourth in 7:44.41.
Flo Peters and Carolyn Adams earned the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the women's pentathlon. Peters finished with a combined team score of 3420 points, with Adams not far behind with 3391.
Peters placed tied for second in the high jump (1.60m), third in the 60m hurdles (9.05) and 800m (2:25.83) and sixth in the shot put (9.01m) and long jump (5.05m) events. Adams was also tied for second in the high jump (1.60m), second in the 60m hurdles (8.92), second in the 800m (2:23.07), fifth in the shot put (9.24m) and 10th in the long jump (4.65m).
Honour Walmsley (2:50.76) and Colleen Hennessy (2:52.55) placed second and third in the women's 1000m, while veteran Natalie Geiger garnered the silver medal in the 300m dash in a time of 39.21 seconds.
