Box Score Fourth-year guard Julian Clarke notched 29 points but it wasn't enough as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 89-86 to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday, November 8 in Waterloo, Ont.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 1-1 after Week 1 of OUA basketball action.
Clarke went 12-for-25 from the floor, draining three from beyond the arc, and added six rebounds and four assists.
Manny Sahota added 23 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Devin Johnson had 20 points and six rebounds in the loss.
Down by 14 points with 8:34 to go in the game, the Blues clawed back and brought it within two with 1:13 remaining. Clarke's three-point attempt to tie the game at the buzzer went just wide and the Hawks walked away with the narrow win.
Luke Allin led the Hawks with 23 points, going 7-for-7 from beyond the arc, while Aiddian Walters notched 17 points and Kyrie Coleman had 16 points in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, November 14 as they host the Windsor Lancers in their 2014-15 home opener at the brand new Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. Tip off is set for 8 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale
