Admission is FREE! Shoot for tuition! Shoot for $500 travel vouchers! Come watch the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's basketball teams host the Nipissing Lakers in their grand opening event this Friday, November 21 at the brand new Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.

The women start the action at 6 p.m., with the men to follow at 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public and the first 1,000 fans will receive a Varsity Blues rally towel.

Two lucky students will have a chance to sink a half-court shot for free tuition. Two lucky fans will also shoot-to-win a $500 travel voucher courtesy of Merit Travel. Plus many more chances to win great prizes!

The new Ron Kimel Field House in the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport is arguably the best court facility in the CIS. The 2,000-seat international standard field house for basketball and volleyball also features a high performance strength and conditioning centre overlooking Varsity Stadium and a state-of-the-art sport medicine clinic. 

The Varsity Blues women's basketball team are 2-2 to start the season and in second place in the OUA East division.

Fifth-year guard Jill Stratton of Etobicoke, Ont., leads the squad and ranks seventh in the province, averaging 17 points per game. Fellow veteran Jasmine Lewin (Brampton, Ont.) averages 13.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 12 steals so far this season.

The Nipissing Lakers are 0-2 to start 2014-15 and in fourth place in the North division. Sophomore guard Claire Abbott leads the team with 7.5 points per game.

Toronto's men are 1-3 so far this year and coming off a 75-68 loss to the Western Mustangs last Saturday night. Third-year forward Devin Johnson and fourth-year guard Julian Clarke lead the Blues with 19 and 19.5 points per game, respectively, placing them both among the top 10 scorers in the league.

Johnson also ranks third in the province with 10.2 boards per game.

Nipissing's men are also 0-2 having lost to powerhouses Ottawa and Carleton on their opening weekend. First-year forward Marcus Lewis leads the squad with 10 points per game, while sophomore guard Jordan Campbell has averaged 9.5 points per game.
