MEN'S VOLLEYBALL DOWNS LAKERS IN FIVE SETS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's volleyball team topped the Nipissing Lakers 3-2 (25-17, 24-26, 12-25, 26-24, 15-12) on Saturday, November 15 in North Bay, Ont.

With the win, the Blues improve to 2-4, while the Lakers drop to 0-5 in the early goings of the OUA season.

Fifth-year veteran Jake Dysselhof led all players with 21 kills and added nine digs, while Kyle Fick notched 12 kills, eight digs and two aces.

Middle hitter Trevor Grant had 11 kills, while Nate Virgo recorded 10 kills and nine digs.

Michael Denton matched his career-high 54 assists in the victory.

Toronto built a 16-10 lead at the first technical time out and kept pace to take the opening set 25-17. The Lakers rallied and took a 2-1 match lead with 26-24 and 25-12 wins. U of T battled back though, forcing a fifth set with a 26-24 win and sealing the game 15-12 in the final set.

Nipissing was led by a 19-kill performance from Andrew McWiggan.

The Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow afternoon as they travel to take on the York Lions at Tait McKenzie Centre. The game will be streamed live on OUA.tv, starting with opening serve at 4 p.m.
