BLUES BASKETBALL HOME OPENERS THIS WEEKEND

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's basketball team host their inaugural regular season home games at the brand new Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport this Friday, November 14.
 
Toronto takes on the Windsor Lancers on Friday night and Western Mustangs on Saturday. The women start the action at 6 p.m., with the men to follow at 8 p.m. on both days. Advance tickets are on sale here. All four games will also be streamed live on OUA.tv.
 
Anyone who caught a pre-season game in the new Ron Kimel Field House would argue that the University of Toronto now has one of the best court facilities in the CIS. The 2,000-seat international standard field house for basketball and volleyball also features a high performance strength and conditioning centre overlooking Varsity Stadium and a new state-of-the-art sport medicine clinic. 
 
Let's take a look at this weekend's match-ups:
 
WOMEN

Toronto's women are 1-1 to start the season after notching a 75-63 victory over the Waterloo Warriors before falling 85-63 to the Laurier Golden Hawks last weekend.
 
Fifth-year guard Jill Stratton of Etobicoke, Ont., leads the Blues and ranks second in the province with 26.5 points per game. The two-time OUA all-star recorded a career-high 27 points versus Waterloo.
 
Second-year forward Selali Acolatse (Edmonton) has had a great start to the season, averaging 12.5 points and a team-high 9.5 boards.  Fifth-year guard Jasmine Lewin also posted double digits on opening weekend with 10.5 points per game and a team-high five assists in two games.
 
The two-time CIS defending champion and No. 1 Windsor Lancers are 2-0 to start their 2014-15 campaign. Guard Korissa Williams led the Lancers on opening weekend with 20 points per game, as Windsor topped Western and Guelph handily.
 
The Western Mustangs are 0-2 after losses to Windsor and Guelph last weekend. Sophomore guard Mackenzie Puklicz leads Western with 12 points and five boards per game, while Caroline Wolynski has averaged nine points per game. Victoria Heine leads the squad with six boards per contest.
 
MEN
U of T's men are also 1-1 to start 2014-15. The Blues defeated the Warriors 79-76 before narrowly falling 89-86 to the Laurier Golden Hawks this past weekend.
 
Fourth-year  guard and team captain Julian Clarke leads the squad and ranks second in the OUA with 23 points per game, while third-year forward Devin Johnson averaged 22 points and a team-high 12 boards in Toronto's first two games of the season.
 
Manny Sahota also had a strong showing during opening weekend, averaging 18 points and six boards.
 
The No. 4 Windsor Lancers are 2-0 after lopsided wins over Western and Guelph. Four Lancers averaged double digits, with Rotimi Osuntola leading the squad with 16 points and 12.5 boards per contest. Khalid Abdel-Gabar also knocked down 15.5 points per game.
 
The Mustangs are 1-1, having fallen to the Lancers but bouncing back versus the Gryphons with an 85-71 victory last Friday night. Fourth-year forward Greg Morrow has averaged a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds per game.
