The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team fell 86-80 to the Waterloo Warriors on Tuesday night at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

The game was rescheduled after the Nov. 9 postponement and wraps up East vs West division play in OUA women's basketball regular season action.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 2-8 and remain in eighth place in the East, while the Warriors notch their first win of the season and are in eighth in the West.

Fifth-year guard Alex Hill of Toronto led the Blues with 28 points, while Dennis Ankrah notched his first career double-double of 12 points and 11 boards. Adam Plummer added nine points and nine rebounds, while Matt Savel also had nine points in the loss.

Hill held the hot hand in the early goings, notching eight of Toronto's first 12 points, while Jaspreet Gill (Oliver, B.C.) led Waterloo's offence with 10 points of his own. Toronto held a 20-16 lead after the first quarter.

The Blues opened the second quarter on an 8-2 run and led 40-35 at halftime.

Waterloo, led by a combined 21 points between Gill and Matt Gilbota, brought the game within one midway through the third. The two teams exchanged baskets from there and were deadlocked at 60-60 heading into the final frame.

The Warriors opened the fourth on a 7-3 run and a Myles Charvis three gave Waterloo a five-point lead (70-65). Despite a rally attempt from U of T, including a Hill dunk, the Blues could not recover and dropped their sixth straight game.

Gill led all players with 31 points, while Glibota had 20 points and Myles Charvis added 15 in the victory.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Friday, January 10 as they head north to take on the York Lions. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
