BLUES BASKETBALL BACK IN ACTION THIS WEEK

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's basketball teams kick off the second half of the season on Sunday, January 5 as they host the Ryerson Rams at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

The women start the action at 2 p.m., with the men to follow at 4 p.m. The Blues also host the Waterloo Warriors on Tuesday night (Jan. 7) at 6 and 8 p.m. Advanced tickets are on sale here.

The Blues men are 2-6, in eighth place, while the No. 4 Ryerson Rams are 8-1 and tied with Ottawa for second. Waterloo is winless (0-9) in the first half of the season and sit in last place in the West.

RECORD WATCH: Fifth-year guard Alex Hill leads Toronto and ranks second in the OUA with 26.6 points per game. The Toronto native is just 15 points shy of Dave West's all-time career scoring record (1,269 points/1960-61, 62-65) at U of T and looks to set a new standard on Sunday afternoon.

Second-year forward Devin Johnson has had a stellar start to the season, averaging 9.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game as well.

Toronto's women won their last two regular season contests before the December break and also hold a 2-6 record while sitting tied for fifth in the East.

Fourth-year guard Jill Stratton (Etobicoke, Ont.) leads the team, averaging 12.6 points, 4.9 boards and three assists per game. Fellow fourth-year veterans Rachael Sider and Liane Bailey have posted 8.3 and 9.3 points per game, respectively, while Alicia Van Kampen leads the team with 5.6 rebounds per contest.
