The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 70-49 to the No. 10 Carleton Ravens on Friday night (Jan. 31) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 8-9 but remain in fourth place, while the Ravens improve to 13-4 and stay atop the OUA East division standings.
Rookie Emily Piccini led the Blues with 11 points and five boards, while veterans Liane Bailey, Jill Stratton and Alicia Van Kampen had six points apiece in the loss.
Carleton opened the game on a 13-4 run and held an 11-point lead (19-8) after the first quarter. The Ravens continued to press on a 9-2 streak to start the second, and Elizabeth Roach's 14-point first half gave the Ravens a 40-18 lead at halftime.
The Blues attempted to rally in the third, but Carleton kept pace en route to the victory.
Roach led all players with 24 points and eight boards, while Natasha Plaskacz added 14 and McKenzie Sigurdson had 10 in the win.
The Varsity Blues look to bounce back tomorrow night as they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
