BLUES COME OH SO CLOSE AT CARLETON

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team's fourth-quarter rally fell just short in a 57-56 loss to the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, January 18 in Ottawa.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 6-8 but remain in fourth place, while the Ravens improve to 10-3 and sit atop the OUA East standings.

Down 48-35 heading into the final frame, the Blues outscored the Ravens 21-9, led by another 11-point fourth quarter performance from Jill Stratton, but were unable to drain the winning basket in the dying seconds.

Stratton (Etobicoke, Ont.) led all players with 21 points while adding five rebounds and four steals. Rachael Sider (New Westminster, B.C.) had nine points, four rebounds and three steals, while both Vanessa Brathwaite and Liane Bailey notched six points in the loss.

Carleton was led by Natasha Plaskacz's 18 points, with Lindsay Shotbolt adding a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, January 24 as they host the Algoma Thunderbirds in their annual Think Pink game at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. One lucky fan will have a chance to win $50,000 during the halftime contest. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
