The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's volleyball teams take on the No. 1 McMaster Marauders and No. 7 Ottawa Gee-Gees as a part of the University of Toronto Student Union's (UTSU) Winter Week of Welcome on Saturday, January 18.
Toronto's women will serve up the action against the Gee-Gee's at 6 p.m., followed by the men's match up with the Marauders at 8 p.m.
The Blues women are 9-3 and sit in third place in the OUA East division after going 1-1 this past weekend (Jan. 11-12). Toronto swept the Nipissing Lakers 3-0 before falling 3-0 in a close encounter with the No. 6 York Lions.
Fourth-year Charlotte Sider (Ottawa) leads the Blues attack with 122 kills, 126 digs and 12 serving aces. Sider ranks at number eight in the OUA for kills.
Rookies Tessa Davis (South Surrey, B.C.) and Kate Lonergan (North Vancouver, B.C.) continue to prove themselves on the court. Davis has made 30 blocks this season putting her at number five in the OUA, while Lonergan takes the number one spot in OUA and ranks third in the CIS for digs per set with 173 digs in 39 games.
Malena Rapoport (Vancouver) and Madelyn Mandryk (Lockport, Man.) have been splitting duties in the setter position and have 213 and 110 assists, respectively.
The No. 7 Gee-Gee's are 12-1 and sit in first place in the OUA. Myriam English and Kelsie English lead the Ottawa attack with 171 and 148 kills and 31 and 24 serving aces, respectively.
The Blues men are 4-9 and sit tied for seventh place in the OUA. Toronto went 0-2 over the weekend (Jan.10-11) after falling to the Nipissing Lakers 3-0 and dropping a five set thriller to the York Lions.
Veteran Jake Dysselhof (Mississauga, Ont.) leads Toronto's offence with 117 kills, 15 serving aces and 77 digs. Dysselhohf ranks at number 10 in the OUA for kills and number six for serving aces.
Fourth-year Michael Denton (Scarborough, Ont.) has been solid in the setter position ranking number 10 in the OUA for assists tallying 242.
McMaster is 12-0 and sits in first place in the OUA. In their first meeting this season, the Marauders defeated the Blues 3-0 on October, 2, 2013. Jori Mantha leads the Marauders with 120 kills and 10 serving aces.
