BLUES FALL IN CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH LIONS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-27, 20-25, 19-25) to the No. 6 York Lions on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 12) at Tait McKenzie Centre.

The two teams traded points to start the first set before Toronto got out to a seven-point lead. The Lions battled back and brought the game back to within one and went on to take the set 25-27. The second set was closely contended but the Lions went out in front to win it 20-25. York took the lead in the third set and, despite a late run, the Blues went down 19-25.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 9-3 and sit in third place in the OUA East division.

Charlotte Sider led all players with eight kills and added seven digs and three blocks. Teammate Denise Wooding had five kills, five digs and an ace, while Malena Rapaport and Madelyn Mandryk added 11 and 13 assists, respecitvely. Emma Jennings and Kate Lonergan notched 12 and 13 digs in the loss.

Brittney Hopley and Michelle Pierce lead the Lions with seven kills each.

The Blues return to action next weekend when they take on the top of the table Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, January 18 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. The game will be streamed live, starting at 6 p.m.
