The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's track and field teams travelled to Windsor, Ont., for the 2014 Can-Am Meet this weekend (Jan. 10-11).
Leading the way in women's action was second-year standout Katia Vasilyeva, who placed first in the high jump competition, clearing 1.70m. Danielle Delage placed second, while Ali Baker was fifth, both clearing 1.61m.
Maddie Kelly earned gold in the women's 1000m in a time of 3:00.99, and went onto help Kelly Hennessy, Rachael Jewett and Honor Walmsley to a first-place finish in the 4x800 relay in 9:04.48.
Fiona Callender placed second in the women's 600m (1:32.54), with Jewett finishing third (1:33.87), while Toronto's 4x200 relay of Callender, Walmsley, Danielle Delage and Alison Frasor also placed second in 3:55.43
Walmsley rounded out the top three finishes, placing third in thw 1500m in a time of 4:34.70.
Second-year standout Greg McNeill led Toronto's men, placing first in both the 60m hurdles (8.03) and 300m (34.82), while Sacha Smart finished first in the 1500m in a time of 3:51.94.
Toronto's 4x200 relay of Rayshaun Franklin, Kyle Thompson, Isaiah Weathers and Pistis Lau placed second in a time of 1:33.20. The Blues 4x400 relay team of Franklin, Weathers, Smart and Devonte Cummings were third in 3:26.28, while Cummings, Smart, Connor Outhit and Chris Moyer also placed third in the 4x800 relay (7:52.22). Kyle Thompson finished tied for third in the 60m dash in 6.96 seconds, while Darnell Girard placed fourth in both the shot put (14.63m) and weight throw (13.05m) events.
