The University of Toronto Varsity Blues baseball team edged out two wins at home on Sunday, before falling to the Gryphons on Tuesday, September 17 in Guelph, Ont.

Down 2-0 early in the first game on Sunday, the Blues erupted for four runs in the bottom of the second inning, thanks in large part to a triple by rookie Bradley Bedford. Bedford ended the game with two hits and two RBI, while Kravice Batts (Toronto) had three hits in the win.
First-year pitcher Alexander Paglia (Nobelton, Ont.) earned the 4-3 win on the mound, striking out two in five innings of work.
The second game of the day proved just as close, with U of T needing an extra inning to earn a 13-12 victory.
Marek Deska started the game, striking out six in four innings and Orion Katayama earned the win on the mound. Steve Hersch led the team offensively, going 5-for-5 and three RBI in the victory.
The Blues then travelled to Guelph Tuesday night, where they dropped a 16-9 decision. After Toronto scored five in the top of the first, the Gryphons took over for good with nine runs in the second inning. Batts led the team with three hits, while
Katayama had two hits and three RBI and Kyle Bowers had two hits and two RBI in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to action this Saturday, September 21 as they head to St. Catharines, Ont., to take on the Brock Badgers. Game times are 1 and 4 p.m.
