The OUA defending champion Varsity Blues baseball team defeated the Ryerson Rams 8-3 and 13-1 on Saturday, September 14 at Dan Lang Field.
Fourth-year pitcher Peter Nash (Ajax) earned the win on the mound in the first game, allowing three earned runs on four hits, while striking out six. Toronto built a 2-0 lead after four innings and exploded for four runs in the fifth to secure the victory. Veteran Andrew Mannone led the Blues offensively with three hits and two RBI in the victory.
Toronto carried that momentum over to the second game of the day, scoring four runs in the first inning. The Blues went onto add three and six runs in the third and fourth innings to secure a dominant 13-1 win.
Ryan Donnelly earned the win on the mound, striking out one in five innings of work. Jonathan Isaac had three hits and five RBI in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to the field tomorrow (Sept. 15) as they host the Guelph Gryphons at Dan Lang Field. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
