The Blues opened the weekend with a 5-1 loss to the eventual champion Western Mustangs. Second-year standout Riyan Bhatia picked up U of T’s lone point, defeating Albert Shoihet 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 14-12.
Toronto rebounded with a big 5-1 victory over the Brock Badgers on Friday night. U of T took each of the No. 2-6 matches in three-straight games.
The Blue and White then fell short versus the Waterloo Warriors. Wilfred Ip (Toronto) won a five-game thriller over Craig Langford in the No. 4 spot, while fellow fifth-year veteran Jonathan Kent topped Waterloo’s Steve Boileau in three straight in the No. 6 position.
Veteran standout Adrian Pond (Toronto) then led U of T to a 3-3 tie versus the Queen’s Gaels. After Jonathan Kent and Curtis Woodford took the No. 6 and 6 matches, respectively, the Gaels fought back to win the next three and take a 3-2 lead. It all came down to the No. 1 match, where Pond came from behind to defeat Gaels Mo Hamour in five sets, 11-8, 1-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-6.
The Blues ended the weekend with a 5-1 loss to the eventual silver medalist and hosts McMaster Marauders. Woodford garnered Toronto’s point with a five-set win in the No. 6 spot.
