The Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team is set for an OUA semi-final match up with the York Lions on Friday, February 22 at 5 p.m.
The second semifinal of the day features the second-seeded Ottawa Gee-Gees and third-place Ryerson Rams at 8 p.m. All four games will be streamed live on SSN Canada from York’s Tait McKenzie Centre.
The Blues knocked off the fourth-place Queen’s Gaels, 3-1, in OUA quarter-final action last Saturday in Kingston, Ont. Toronto has won their past seven games, dropping only three sets in the process.
The Lions took the regular season series 2-0 over the Blues. York blanked Toronto 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) on Nov. 10 before edging the Blue and White 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 15-6) on Jan. 12.
Third-year right side hitter Charlotte Sider (Ottawa) led the Blues with 2.88 kills per set and 30 serving aces and was named an OUA all-star for her efforts. Port Coquitlam, B.C., native Jennifer Neilson averaged 2.45 kills per set.
Fifth-year veteran Katrina Rossall (Calgary) ranked fifth in the OUA with 3.88 digs per set, while her sister, Shannon, led the team with 34.5 blocks this season.
Third-year standout Brandie Wilkerson led the Lions throughout the regular season, ranking third in the OUA with 4.21 points per set. Michelle Pierce also posted 3.70 points and ended the season second in the province with 64.5 blocks.
