WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYOFF PREVIEW: YORK AT TORONTO

The Varsity Blues women’s basketball team hosts the sixth-seeded York Lions in OUA East quarter-final action on Wednesday, February 20 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
 
The game will be streamed live via SSN and live stats will be available on varsityblues.ca starting at tip off at 7 p.m. U of T students are free with a valid TCard. Advance tickets are on sale here
 
U of T ended the season in third place in the East with a 10-10 record, while the Lions (6-14) edged the Laurentian Lady Vees (5-15) for the sixth and final playoff spot last weekend.
 
The two teams went 1-1 during the regular season. The Lions defeated the Blues 85-71 on Jan. 18 at York before U of T came away with a 66-65 victory at home on Feb. 2. Toronto and York also met in this game last season, with the Blues earning a 64-37 victory.
 
If U of T wins on Wednesday night, they will face the second-place Carleton Ravens in Ottawa on Saturday (Feb. 23), while if the Lions prove victorious, they face the Ottawa Gee-Gees in an East semi-final battle.
 
Third-year guard Rachael Sider (New Westminster, B.C.) has had a break out season, leading the Blues with 12.1 points per contest. Etobicoke, Ont., native Jill Stratton came back from injury in the second half and made an immediate impact, posting 10.6 points per game.
 
Veteran forward Amanda Lauzon (Niagara Falls, Ont.) finished the regular season ranked 10th in the OUA with 7.5 rebounds per game.
 
First-year guard Cyrielle Recoura leads the Lions and ranked fifth in the province with 15.8 points per game. Third-year forward Courtney Osbourne posts a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game.
