The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's water polo team came away with two more wins on Sunday to claim the tournament title at the Queen's Invitational in Kingston, Ont.
The Blues defeated the host Queen's Gaels 16-5 Sunday morning, before topping the OUA defending champion Carleton Ravens for the second time in as many days, 10-7.
Despite giving up the first goal of the game on a rebound, the Blues roared out to a 5-1 first quarter lead in the first game of the day. The team extended the lead to 9-2 at the half and then 12-4 at the end of three quarters of play.
Freshman Emily Bidinosti (Kitchener) was the Blues catalyst, pouring in six goals and drawing several exclusions on the Queen's defenders. Freshman Ana Miroslavic (Toronto) continued her scoring spree by netting a hat trick while senior and captain Maggie Burlington (Calgary), law student Hanna Gros (Toronto), junior Danielle Hirsh (Ottawa) and sophomores Johanna Pinto Lee (Ottawa), Julie Szpara (Kitchener), Rosalee Brown (Barrie) and Stephanie Watson (Victoria) each added singles.
The Blues completed the four game sweep over Carleton Sunday afternoon.
Bidinosti and Gros led the way for the Blues, notching three goals apiece. Burlington, Hirsch, Pinto Lee and Sydney MacDougall (Winnipeg) added singles win the win.
The Blues get right back into action with a 7:45pm home date with York University on Monday.
