Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team defeated the Ryerson Rams 3-1 (25-14, 25-19, 24-26, 25-20) on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 17) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
With the win, the Blues improve to 6-2, while the Rams drop to 5-3 in the OUA East division.
Fourth-year left side hitter Charlotte Sider notched a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore Caleigh Cruickshank added 12 kills, six digs and five aces on the day.
Port Coquitlam, B.C., native Jennifer Neilson added 11 kills and 15 digs, while Kate Lonergan had a game-high 19 digs. Malena Rapaport notched 41 assists in the win.
The Blues started strong, getting out to a 10-2 lead in the first set. Ryerson battled back to bring it within five at the technical time out, but Toronto ended on a 9-3 streak and rookie Tessa Davis capped it off with a kill to take the first 25-14.
U of T got out to another good start in the second and built an 11-4 lead in the early goings. Despite a late 5-0 run by the Rams, Sider came up with a big kill to win it 25-19.
The Rams came alive in the third set and both teams went back and forth. Toronto took a 16-13 lead at the technical time out; however Ryerson surged back to force a fourth set with a 26-24 win.
The Blues responded and kicked off the fourth set with an 8-2 run. Ryerson attempted to rally and brought the game within three (23-20), but Toronto held on for the 25-20 victory.
The Varsity Blues return to the court this Friday, November 22 as they host the RMC Paladins at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.Â
