The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's volleyball teams host the Nipissing Lakers and York Lions this weekend (Oct. 26-27) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
The women will serve up the action first at 1 p.m., followed by the men's game at 3 p.m., on both days.
The Blues opened their season against the Ryerson Rams last Friday night at Mattamy Athletic Centre. The men fell short, dropping a narrow 3-2(25-29, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12) decision.
Veteran Jake Dysselhof recorded a team-high 13 kills, while Kyle Fick had nine kills and Matthew Vares notched 14 digs in the loss.Â
The Lakers men have lost their first two matches, falling to the Guelph Gryphons and Waterloo Warriors over the weekend. York is 1-1 after the first week of OUA action, topping Guelph before falling to Waterloo.
The Blues women also fell to the Rams 3-1Â (25-3, 16-25, 32-34, 19-25) last Friday.
Fourth-year veteran Charlotte Sider led all players with 13 kills, while adding 18 digs on the night. Jennifer Neilson had 12 kills, six digs and two blocks and Malena Rapaport notched 22 assists in the loss.
The Lakers women's volleyball team have begun their very first season out on the court as well. After the first weekend of play, the Lakers sit at 0-2, also dropping games to the Gryphons and Warriors.
The Blues will be honouring the 1995-96 OWIAA championship Varsity Blues women's volleyball team between the second and third sets on Saturday.
U of T looks to top the No. 5 and 2-0 York Lions on Sunday.
