Box Score The Varsity Blues women’s volleyball fell just short in a 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-12) loss to the first-place Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, January 5 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
With the loss, the Blues fall to 5-5 and are tied for sixth place with the McMaster Marauders in the OUA standings.
Third-year right side hitter Jennifer Neilson of Port Coquitlam, B.C., tallied a team-high 15 points, while adding 11 digs and four blocks en route to player of the game honours.
Ottawa native Charlotte Sider continued her dominance on the court with 12 kills, a team-high 21 digs and three serving aces. Julie Bellehumeur and Madelyn Mandryk split setting duties and recording 13 and 21 assists, respectively. Veteran libero Katrina Rossall added 15 digs in the loss.
Third-year outside hitter Myriam English (Orleans, Ont.) led the Gee-Gees with 16 kills, 24 digs and three blocks, while Karina Krueger Schwanke (Blumenau, Brazil) had 15 kills and 21 digs in Ottawa’s 10th win of the season.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, January 11 when they travel to Hamilton, Ont., to take on the McMaster Marauders (5-5). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
