BLUES OPEN 2013 WITH LOSS IN KINGSTON

Box Score The Varsity Blues men’s basketball team fell 82-74 to the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, January 5 at the ARC Main Gym in Kingston, Ont.
 
With the loss, the Blues drop to 2-7 and remain in seventh place, while the Gaels improve to 7-2 and sit just two points behind Ryerson, Ottawa and Carleton in the OUA East.
 
Fourth-year guard Alex Hill led the Blues with 23 points, going 10-for-12 from the free throw line. Holland Landing native Ben Garvin added 15 points and nine boards, while Arun Kumar (Hamilton, Ont.) hit double digits for the ninth consecutive game with 13 points.
 
In his first game back from injury, fourth-year guard Dakota Laurin (Calgary) racked up eight points and eight rebounds in the loss.
 
The Gaels got out to a fast start and built a 22-10 lead after the first frame. A high-scoring second quarter set the pace for the rest of the game, as the Gaels held a 43-35 lead at halftime.
 
The Blues were able to narrow the gap further in the third quarter; however, Greg Faulkner responded with six points for the home team to widen the game for good.
 
Faulkner led all players with 27 points and nine rebounds, while Roshane Roberts had 19 points in the win for the Gaels.
 
The Varsity Blues return to action this Friday, January 11 as they host the No. 1 Carleton Ravens at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
