VOYAGEURS SINK BLUES

Box Score Fourth-year guard Alex Hill notched 31 points in a 98-78 losing effort to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday night (Jan. 19) in Sudbury, Ont.
 
Topping 30 points for the third time in his career, Hill (Toronto) was 10-of-23 from the field, including 4-for-10 from beyond the arc, and added 11 rebounds in his first double-double of the season.
 
Fellow veteran Arun Kumar of Hamilton, Ont., added 25 points, five boards and four assists, while Dakota Laurin (Calgary) notched 10 rebounds in the loss.
 
With Toronto leading by one at halftime (35-34), Laurentian put on the pressure and exploded for 37 points in the third quarter. Back-to-back three pointers from Voyageurs star Manny Pasquale put the home team up by 12 (71-59) heading into the final frame.  
 
The Blues were only able to bring it within nine as the Voyageurs notched their seventh win of the season.
 
Pasquale led Laurentian with 26 points, while Georges Serresse had a double-double of 25 points and 12 boards. Alex Ratte notched 15 points, with Tychon Carter-Newman and Josh Budd adding 11 and 13 points, respectively, in the win.
 
The Blues drop to 2-11 on the season and sit six points shy of the last playoff spot in the East. They will look to bounce back versus the Queen’s Gaels (9-5) next Saturday, January 26 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
