BLUES MAUL LIONS IN FIVE-SET VICTORY

Box Score A solid team effort led the Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team to a 3-2 (25-19, 16-25, 26-24, 20-25, 15-9) victory over the York Lions on Saturday night (Jan. 12) at Tait McKenzie Centre.
 
The win, their third of the season, lifts Toronto into sole possession of seventh place, while York drops to 5-6 and is tied for fifth with the Ryerson Rams.
 
Third-year outside hitter Jonathan Adomait (Dundas, Ont.) led the Blues with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Dave Merritt (Windsor, Ont.) also notched 12 kills and added seven digs on the night. Veteran Mitchell Woodside (Clyde River, P.E.I.) added 10 kills, with team captain Michael Denton notching 39 assists in the win.
 
York was led by Marko Dakic’s game-high 20 kills. Ray Szeto added 17 kills and 15 digs in the narrow loss.
 
The Varsity Blues return to action this Friday, January 18 as they host the Ryerson Rams at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Opening serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
