DEFENDING CHAMPS TOP BLUES

Box Score The Varsity Blues men’s basketball team dropped a 91-57 decision to the No. 1 Carleton Ravens on Friday, January 11 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

Carleton (10-1) remains tied with the Ryerson Rams (10-0) for first place as the two teams square off tomorrow night at Mattamy Athletic Centre. The Blues drop to 2-8 and sit in seventh place in the East division.

The loss marks Toronto's ninth straight to Carleton. The Blues last topped the Ravens on Feb. 1, 2008, 94-73. Carleton holds a 54-32 head-to-head record over U of T since their first meeting in 1971.

Third-year Ravens guard Phillip Scrubb (Richmond, B.C.) led all players with 26 points, going 6-for-12 from beyond the arc. His brother, Thomas, added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Dan Penner had 10 points and seven boards in the win.

Alex Hill led the Blues on the night. The Toronto native notched 19 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Dakota Laurin (Calgary) added 11 points and eight boards in the loss.

The Ravens dominated from the get-go, building a 20-7 lead after the first and taking a 46-25 advantage into halftime.  The second half saw much of the same, as Carleton maintained a comfortable 20-point gap throughout the remainder of the game.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow night as they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees (8-3) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
