The Varsity Blues baseball team fell 3-2 and 7-3 to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday, September 15 at Bechtel Park in Waterloo, Ont.
The Blues are now 2-3, with the Hawks improving to .500 (3-3) to start the season.
In the first game of the day, the Blues built a 2-0 lead in the third inning, with runs from Steven Hersch and Jonathan Isaac.
Laurier bounced back and evened the score in the bottom of the seventh, before scoring the game-winning run in the eighth. Marek Deska started the game on the mound, striking out five and slowing four hits in five innings of work. Laurier’s Petruska pitched a complete game, striking out four and allowing six hits.
The Blues rallied to start the second game, with single runs in both the first and second innings. Laurier replied with two of their own over the next two frames, before exploding for three runs in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth to put the game away.
The Varsity Blues return to action on Sunday, September 16 as they host the Western Mustangs at Dan Lang Field. The first game begins at 12 p.m.
