GEE-GEES GRAB FIVE-SET WIN OVER BLUES

The Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday, February 5 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

Toronto drops to 10-6 and sit tied the McMaster for fourth place in the OUA standings.

“This was a really tough match and I’m very proud of our effort,” said Varsity Blues head coach Kristine Drakich. “It’s always disappointing to lose, especially a close one, but we competed for every rally and that’s a great improvement from our match on Friday. It’s a great step forward as we head into our next matches.”

Sophomore Charlotte Sider led the Blues with 15 kills and 14 digs, while both Rebecca Crosier and Sarah Chapin notched 12 kills each. Denise Wooding notched a game-high 24 digs, while Malena Rapaport had 50 assists in the loss.

Ottawa was led by Karina Kruger Schwanke’s 16 kills, while Myriam English had 12 kills and 17 digs in the win.

The Varsity Blues return to the court next Saturday, February 11 when they host the McMaster Marauders in their fifth annual Cheer Blue, Think Pink match at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
