The Varsity Blues women’s basketball team saw their season come to an end with an 84-62 loss to the Carleton Ravens in OUA East semi-final action on Saturday, February 25 in Ottawa.
Carleton’s win evened the two team’s head-to-head post-season record to 3-3, dating back to the 1971-72 season.
Fifth-year forward Megan Stoncius (Mississauga, Ont.) led the Blues for the second consecutive game with a team-high 17 points. Fellow veteran Sherri Pierce of Brampton, Ont., had 16 points and seven boards, while sophomore guard Jill Stratton (Etobicoke, Ont.) notched 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.
The Blues took an early 9-4 lead in the first quarter but found themselves on the wrong side of a 15-0 run as the Ravens carried a 10-point lead early in the second quarter. Carleton exploded for 27 points in the second frame and held a 42-24 advantage at halftime.
U of T held pace with the Ravens with a 26-26 third quarter, but it wasn’t enough as Carleton held onto a 22-point lead for the win.
Ashleigh Clearly led the Ravens with a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds, while four other Carleton players hit double digits in the win.
