TORONTO AT LAURENTIAN: OUA EAST QUARTER-FINAL PREVIEW

The Varsity Blues men’s basketball team travels to Sudbury, Ont., for a do-or-die OUA East quarter-final versus the fourth-seeded Laurentian Voyageurs on Wednesday, February 22 at 8 p.m.

The game will be streamed live on SSN Canada.

The Blues finished the season in fifth place in the OUA East with a 10-12 record, two points behind the Voyageurs (11-11).

The two teams split the season series, as Laurentian edged the Blues 83-77 in Sudbury on Jan. 20 before U of T rebounded with a big 104-88 win at home on Feb. 10.

Toronto went 7-7 during the second half of the schedule and are coming off a convincing 92-85 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday night.

Third-year forward and Toronto native Alex Hill led the Blues and ranked 10th in the OUA, averaging 15.95 points over 22 games this season. Burnaby, B.C., native Andrew Wasik is also a force to be reckoned with after posting 11.9 points and 6.4 boards per game this season.

Fourth-year guard Arun Kumar really came into his own and averaged 11.8 points per game in 2011-12, while veteran forward Drazen Glisic is always a player to watch with 8.9 points and 6.4 boards per game.

U of T will need to stop third-year Voyageurs guard Manny Pasquale, who led the CIS with 26.33 points per game. Pasquale scored 32 and 35 points in two games versus Toronto this season.

His brother, Isiah, is just as much a threat after tallying 14.8 points per game. Mike Hull leads the team in rebounding (7.7), all while averaging 10.2 points per game.
