Box Score The Varsity Blues women’s basketball team fell 66-45 to the No. 5 Carleton Ravens on Friday, February 17 in Ottawa.
The loss drops Toronto to 14-7 and will result in a third-place regular-season finish for the Varsity Blues. U of T takes on the No. 6 Ottawa Gee-Gees tomorrow night, but the result of the game will not have an impact on final standings.
As the East’s third seed, the Blues prepare to host the sixth-place York Lions on Wednesday, February 22 in OUA East quarter-final action. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Etobicoke, Ont., native Jill Stratton led the Blues with 13 points and five rebounds, while veteran guard Sherri Pierce (Brampton, Ont.) had 10 points in the loss.
The Blues got off to a slow start as the Ravens built a 13-4 lead after the first 10 minutes of action. Toronto rallied to outscore Carleton 15-13 in the second but the home team held a seven-point lead (26-19) lead at halftime.
The Ravens extended their lead for good with a 21-12 third-quarter and despite the Blues efforts, took the game by a 21-point margin.
Carleton’s Ashleigh Cleary and Krista Van Slingerland each tallied a game-high 15 points in the win. The Ravens clinch the second spot and a first round playoff bye with the victory.
