BLUES BETTERED BY THUNDERWOLVES

Box Score The Varsity Blues men’s basketball team (1-1) jumped out to an early lead over the visiting Thunderwolves (1-1) but couldn’t hang on as No. 5 Lakehead out-muscled Toronto on their way to a 94-73 victory at the University of Toronto’s Athletic Centre on Saturday night.
 
Toronto shot 40% from the floor and was 34% from beyond the arc to the Wolves 50% field goal percentage and 39% from three-point range. The biggest disparity however, was rebounding. Toronto was out-rebounded 52-28, leading to many second chance opportunities in the final two frames.
 
Fifth-year senior and Hamilton native, Arun Kumar, led the way for Toronto with a game-high 19 points. He, along with fellow seniors Alex Hill (Toronto) and Blues player of the game, Ben Garvin (Holland Landing, Ont.), all hit double digits as Toronto starters outscored Lakehead’s starting five, 53-41.
 
In the end, it would the Wolves reserves that had the biggest impact on the night.  The trio of Brendan King, Joseph Jones and Dwayne Harvey tallied 10, 13 and 16 points respectively, helping the visiting squad outscore the Blues bench 53-10.
 
Thunderwolves Yoosrie Salhia of Toronto hauled in 13 boards to lead all players.
 
Toronto is back in action next Friday night, Nov. 16, when they travel to Laurier to take on the Golden Hawks.  Their next home game is Friday, Oct. 30 when they host the McMaster Marauders in the Sports Gym.  Game time is set for 8 p.m.
