NO. 6 MUSTANGS OUT MATCH BLUES

The Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (25-22, 25-17, 25-13) decision to the Western Mustangs on Saturday night (Jan. 7) in London, Ont.

For the second consecutive night, Mitchell Woodside and Matthew Vares led the Blues, each tallying nine kills in the loss. First-year setter Steven Khuu recorded a game-high 26 assists, while Michael Denton added nine digs.

The first set proved to be the closest as the Blues overcame a 10-4 deficit to bring the game within one on multiple occasions.  A final kill from Western’s Derek Kuiack would give the home team a 25-22 win.

U of T remained within reach throughout the first half of the second set but Western put on the pressure and didn’t look back to take it 25-17. The undefeated Mustangs (11-0) showed their dominance in the third with a 25-13 advantage to seal the shut out win.

The Varsity Blues return to the court on Friday, January 20 as they host the York Lions at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
