The Varsity Blues are pleased to announce that David Riley, Nathanlin Moy, Esther Haines and Jennifer Tapley have made known their intent to swim and study at the University of Toronto starting in the fall of 2012.
Head coach Byron MacDonald is very enthused about the early signings to the men’s and women’s swim teams as all four are expected to make an impact for the Blues at the national level.
A member of the Toronto Swim Club, Riley is coming off an impressive performance at the age-group national championships.
"David has just begun to touch his potential," said MacDonald. "There is no doubt in my mind that he will become a major player for us in the years to come."
Moy, also from Toronto, and Haines of the Cobra Swim Club were accepted to U of T last year but chose to defer for a year before coming to university. As a top student, Moy will enter the engineering science program, while Haines plans to study math and physical sciences.
A sprinter from Etobicoke, Tapley will enter her first year in U of T's science program in preparation for a future in medicine and will look to play a major role on the Blues roster.
“Tapley has natural speed," said assistant coach Linda Kiefer. “She will certainly fill a critical void for us as we are short on sprinters.”
Students who sign a letter of intent and commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
