Box Score The Varsity Blues men’s basketball team dropped an 83-77 decision to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday night (Jan. 20) in Sudbury, Ont.
Toronto’s fourth straight loss drops them into fifth place with a 5-9 record, while the Voyageurs move into fourth (6-8) in the OUA East.
Four different Blues hit double digits in the loss. Third-year forward Alex Hill (Toronto) tallied a team-high 17 points, with veteran Sean Nickel of Kitchener, Ont., adding 15 points of his own. Drazen Glisic and Arun Kumar tallied 12 and 14 points, respectively.
Toronto got out to an early 24-17 lead after the first quarter, but the Voyageurs battled back to bring the game within three (40-37) at halftime.
The Blues jumped out to another 10-point advantage midway through the third frame, only to be answered by a 14-7 run by Laurentian. U of T held a 61-58 lead after three quarters of play.
Voyageurs leading scorer Manny Pasquale took matters into his own hands with four quick points in the opening minute of the fourth to give the home team a lead that would not subside. Laurentian outscored Toronto 25-16 in the fourth quarter to earn the six-point win.
Pasquale led all players with 32 points, while Georges Serresse had 18 and Mike Hull added 15 points in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow night as they travel uptown to take on the York Lions. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
