BLUES SEASON COMES TO AN END VERSUS GEE-GEES

Box Score The Varsity Blues men’s basketball team ended their season with an 85-60 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in OUA quarter-final action on Saturday night (Feb. 26) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

With the win, the Gee-Gees advance to the OUA Wilson Cup Final Four, March 4-5, hosted by McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont.

After a 41-point performance at Toronto two weeks ago, third-year forward Warren Ward did it again, leading all players with 25 points to earn player of the game status. The London, Ont., native also added a team-high eight rebounds and five assists on the night.

Rookie guard John Berhanemeskel tallied 17 points and eight boards, while Louis Gautheir had 10 points in the win.

Toronto was led by second-year forward Alex Hill, who tallied a team-high 17 points. Arun Kumar added 12 and veteran guard Anthony De Giorgio recorded nine points and five assists in his last game as a Varsity Blue.

Jacob Gibson-Bascombe and Ward opened the game with nine and 11 first-quarter points, respectively, to give the visiting Gee-Gees a 27-9 lead after 10 minutes of action.

The Gee-Gees continued to dominate throughout the second, outscoring the Blues 17-12 to build a 44-21 lead at halftime.

Hill rallied U of T with 14 points as Toronto brought the game within 15 (61-46) in the third quarter; However, it was too little, too late as Ottawa continued to press and came away with the 25-point victory.
