The Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team dropped a narrow 3-0 (21-25, 23-25, 22-25) decision to the Guelph Gryphons in their 2011-12 home opener on Friday night (Nov. 4) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 1-2 on the season, while the Gryphons improve to 2-1.
Toronto and Guelph battled it out for three straight sets, with neither team gaining a substantial lead.
Fourth-year rightside hitter Mitchell Woodside of Clyde River, P.E.I., once again led the Blues with a game-high 12 kills and seven digs. Sophomore Jonathan Adomait (Dundas, Ont.) had 10 kills, while libero Michael Denton of Scarborough, Ont., led all players with 11 digs in the loss.
Veteran Winston Rosser led the Gryphons with seven kills and seven digs in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow night as they host the Waterloo Warriors at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
