MEN’S SQUASH WINS BLACK KNIGHT TOURNEY

The Varsity Blues men’s squash team defeated both the Waterloo Warriors and Queen’s Gaels to earn the Black Knight tournament trophy on Saturday, November 12 at the Athletic Centre Squash Courts.

The Blues blanked the Warriors 9-0 before edging the Gaels 5-4 for the title.

The Blues dominated every single match versus Warriors. U of T scored the maximum 27 games in the contest, while giving up only 5 individual games.

After Queen’s defeated Waterloo 5-4 in the second match of the day, the winner of the Black Knight Trophy could only be decided by the final match between Toronto and Queen’s.

The Blues swapped matches with the Gaels to bring the score to 4-4, putting both teams on edge before the No. 1 seeds stepped onto the court.

With the pressure on Adrian Pond from Toronto, the Blues star was relentless with his attacks, forcing Amr Hamour from Queen’s to fetch balls from all four corners of the court.

Pond defeated Hamour 3-0 to give the Blues a narrow win over Queen’s and secure the Black Knight Trophy for the Blues for the very first time.

Other notable performances from the Blues came from Greg Raczkowski, Jonathan Kent, Riyan Bhatia, and Chris Evans, who each won both their matches in the day against Waterloo and Queen’s.
